STARLIGHTERS
"Scat-talking nonsense syllabses-phrasing is one of the taboos of rhythm'n'blues and novelty rock'n'roll. It dates back (previes) from the swingin' days of Slim Gaillard and Cab Calloway, and bases on doowop vocal group's harmony-syllabses such as "bum-buh-buh-bum-bum", "dit-lit-lit-lit-lit", or "day ron day ron day, bop a doo ron". These simple, childish, no-meaning hocums started sounding humorous when they were taken off from the normal doowop song, and added to wild rock'n'roll tunes as "Tutti Frutti". In most cases, they also gave the name for these wonderful songs, that unfortunately way too often ended up to be just some silly LP-fillers or the singles' flipsides.
The prewar Blues man Arthur "Blind" Blake wondered already in the 1920s in one of his songs: "I wish somebody'd tell me what Diddie Wa Diddie means".
Well, no doubt he got his answer, 'cause sometimes even the nonsense-titles (or at least the parts of them) actually meant something. In spoken language these phrases may still be understable (meaning for instance a dance craze, a girl's name, or children's nursery rhyme) but they appear here 'cause you can't find 'em from any dictionary. Of course, for me, who doesn't speak all the languages in the world, also every Hawaiian, Spanish, Italian and Japansese lyrics sound like a total nonsense (and that's why there may be some foreign folk-songs included by mistake)!
So, if you're listenin' a great tune but you don't understand a word they're tryin' to say, does it really matter? Naah! Just think it this way: any song which is named to "Inky Dinky Wang Dang Doo", "Boom Mag-Azeno-Vip Vay", "Ring Dang Doo Ting-A-Ling", "Shanga Langa Ding Dong", or "Fatty-Boom Bi Laddy" can't be bad ... or can it?"
