Yasss! A blastin' 16-cut album, and I hate to scare ya, but THIS WAS THE ROCK'N'ROLL LP of 1996 (and THE LP by which a lotta so-called "R&R" shall be judged!)
Just as "Here Are The Sonics" or the first two Ramones LPs set some sorta "standard" for 1964 and 1976/77, THIS Oblivians LP is gonna shake people up but good!
Never mind if the world circa 1996 has its head up its ass as much as it did when the former three albs were released, what we're talking here is an UTTERLY FUCKING CLASSIC LP that is gonna be revered for a LONG, LONG time!
Thsi damn record heatwelds together an ungodly melting pot of '50s R&B, Rockabilly, Punkrock, Blues, and Garage Punk in a way RARELY ever touched, never mind STEAMROLLED into a red-hot fireball, as the Oblivians do it here!!!
The lads originally recorded 17 cuts at Jerry Teel's Funhouse studio in Dec 95, then recorded another 15 cuts live-to-2-track at Easyl Studios in Memphis in January.
Over the next 4 months the band chose the hottest takes, whittled away the chaff, and came up with the "HOT SHIT 16" which makes up their majestic new LP "Popular Favorites".
